GMSP Cycle 1 Day 5

GMSP Cycle 1 Day 5

Body maintenance. Think of it this way, your body is like a high speed sports car. You’re out on the track 5 days a week. You have one goal in mind, going 100mph every time. If I want to win a race, I want to make sure my car is in tip top shape. If my tire is low, I’ll put air back in it. If the Oil need to be changed, I’ll Change it. If I’m running low on gas, I’ll refuel. Now, Imagine you trying to do those things with out pumping air in the tires, changing the oil, or refueling the gas tank. Sure, you might be able to still perform at high-speeds just as well, but eventually your tires will burst and you’ll wreck. Your gas will run out and you’ll be stranded..or worse your oil will clog up the engine and you’ll DIE!. Okay maybe not die but your engine will fail.
A rest day doesn’t just mean sit at home and don’t do anything. That’s almost like leaving your sports car in the garage and praying its going to magically fix itself. Some times all it takes is a 45 mobility sesh with coach G (BOOM!). For others, it might be a nice dip in a cold bath and a 5min stretch. Maybe even a light 5k run or row. It’s hard sometimes to understand how much work we actually put in here. Then we start to feel the aches and pains in our joints and muscles. All of this will eventually lead to a bad workout where we don’t push 100% and find ourselves not having fun because we are so tired. Worst case scenario, we try to push through it and ultimately injure ourselves. And trust me, INJURIES SUCK! So I cannot stress enough how important it is to mobilize and take care of the body. The more maintenance we put on our bodies the better we can perform. Which means we can get the results we want a lot quicker. I believe I have a pretty good understanding of how my body works and performs, why shouldn’t you?
